The Challenge
The homeowner wanted the backyard and side yard fully enclosed, but didn't want a standard "board-on-board" fence. The request was easy to describe and harder to build: make it different, keep it visually clean, and treat security as a real requirement. It also had to work across multiple areas of the property where sightlines, access points, and day/night visibility aren't the same. So the design needed to stay cohesive without forcing the exact same solution everywhere.
Our Solution
We recommended a custom IPE fence with black powder-coated wire mesh to keep the look modern and lighter, while still drawing a clear property line. IPE is a premium hardwood clients often pick when they want a more refined, architectural wood finish than typical cedar or redwood. To meet the security goal, we built security lighting into the plan so the perimeter wouldn't disappear at night.
Implementation
We started by confirming the enclosure plan on-site: where the backyard and side-yard runs would start and stop, where transitions would land, and how the fence would tie into existing conditions. After that, the team built and installed the IPE fence sections and added the black powder-coated wire mesh where specified. We finished by installing the security lighting and checking nighttime visibility and coverage so it supported the client's "instant security" goal without throwing off harsh glare.
Results
The homeowner ended up with a custom perimeter fence that encloses the backyard and side yard and looks clean and modern.
